Granny Hospital bows out after more than 50 years in nursing

A Raigmore Hospital children's nurse known affectionately by her young charges as Granny Hospital has retired after more than half a century in the profession.
Senior staff nurse Sandie Macleod has hung up her uniform and bid a fond farewell to the children’s unit at the Inverness hospital where she had worked for over 30 years.
Hospital bosses said the impact Sandie has had on her patients, their families, and her colleagues cannot be underestimated and there was many a tear shed as she bid farewell.
April Emmott, Senior Nurse for Paediatric Services, said: “I joined the unit in 2007 and was immediately met with kindness, commitment and a feeling of ‘motherliness’ from Sandie.
"She cared more than anyone I had met before and her passion was evident for her patients and their families, and also to her colleagues.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sandie for being there for all of us over the years. She is truly irreplaceable and will be missed more than she can imagine.”
Iain Stewart, Chief Executive for NHS Highland, presented Sandie with a Highland Quality Approach special merit award acknowledging her years of dedication to paediatric nursing as well as a Valuing Service Award for her long service.
He said: “We are so grateful to Sandie for everything she has contributed to paediatric nursing over the years.
"When you listen to what has been said about Sandie it is clear that she is loved and will be very much missed by all who know her. I wish her all the very best in her retirement.”
