Glenmore and 14 other campsites operated by Camping in The Forest will remain closed for the remainder of the 2020 season.

The beach at Loch Morlich is just a short distances from Glenmore Campsite. Scores of thousands of visitors are still expected to visit the beauty spot this summer but there are concerns the lack of facilities will create major problems.

The company said in a lengthy statement to the Strathy it had been an extremely difficult decision to make.

A CiTF spokesperson said: "This followed a careful review that considered many different factors but concluded that it is not viable to re-open the campsites from a safety, operational and financial perspective for the remainder of this year.

"We fully understand the disappointment this will cause campers, staff and our partnering businesses within the local area of the campsites.

"Safety and wellbeing will always be our primary concern and from an operational position CiTF sites pose unique challenges in the current circumstances which has meant we would be unable to meet our high hygiene standards and adhere to government guidance on social distancing and gatherings, together with new measures for the running of campsites.

"The very nature of CiTF campsites is to offer the freedom to pitch up wherever holidaymakers want on the site and to always provide campers with the best possible experience in a truly safe manner – that is something we feel we would be unable to deliver in the same way this year.

"This will be a big disappointment to all CiTF customers and the organisation has been in touch with them to offer sincere apologies."

Automatic refunds will be provided in full to all who have a booking.

The spokesperson said that despite the disappointing position for the 2020 season CiTF remains fully committed to all its campsites and the communities that they sit within.

He said: "Our local relationships and working in partnership remain key and we will continue to oversee and manage all of our campsites in the usual way during the closed period.

"This will include working closely with all local agencies, communities and stakeholders to ensure our campsites continue to be maintained and kept to the high standard we pride ourselves in, nestled amongst the beautiful locations our campsites are within.

"We will continue to have a staffing presence across our campsite network in order to manage the campsites while they are closed.

"All customers who have a booking have been contacted and communications have been sent to customers who have used a Camping in the Forest campsite in the past to notify them of the 2020 closure.

"Site signage will also be present informing them of the sites closure.

"Seasonally positioned site signage will be taken down and a closed site sign will be positioned at an appropriate location with a contact number in case of an emergency.

"We are already preparing for the 2021 season and looking forward to welcoming our campers back.

"CiTF would like to thank all of our customers, business partners and stakeholders for their continued support and trust they will understand the extremely difficult decision in these unprecedented times."
