Aviemore will be hosting some wintersports VIPs at the start of next week.

GB's silver medal winning men's curling team will be calling in at the village's community ice rink to show their support for the project and provide some points to youngsters and others wanting to try the game.

The ice rink funded and run by Aviemore and Glenmore Community Trust opened last Autumn and has been a huge success with some 20,000 visits so far.

A trust spokeswoman said: "We are delighted that the men's Olympic curling silver medallists from Beijing 2022 – Bruce Mouat, Bobby Lammie, Grant Hardie and Hammy McMillan are coming to support and inspire our younger generation as we launch our Try Curling sessions."

The sessions are taking place this Monday and on Tuesday.

The GB men’s curling team skippered by Mouat lost out in the Winter Olympics final against Sweden in a closely fought match.

Their efforts were recognised by the Queen, with a tweet on the Royal Family’s account shortly after their 5-4 defeat reading: “Congratulations @TeamMouat on your Silver Medal and bringing home @TeamGB’s first #Beijing2022 medal! You should be incredibly proud of your performance this week”
