Further rise in coronavirus cases registered in NHS Highland area

NHS Highland recorded three new cases of Covid-19 on Sunday when the figures for the latest 24-hour period were released.

It follows an increase of 15 yesterday and a record 98 on Friday, with that unusually high figure linked to an outbreak at the Faslane naval base in Argyll and Bute.

The total for the region now stands at 1577.

There were no fresh cases registered in the Western Isles, Orkney or Shetland, while NHS Grampian had 48 new Covid cases.

Across Scotland, 643 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in the Public Health Scotland figures, with Greater Glasgow and Clyde making up 190 of those, NHS Lanarkshire 126, NHS Ayrshire and Arran 70, NHS Lothian 64, NHS Fife 60, NHS Tayside 50 and NHS Forth Valley 24.

NHS Borders has three new cases while NHS Dumfries and Galloway had five.

There were five new Covid-related deaths reported on Sunday.

The figures also showed that 62 people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19, and 951 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19.
