There has been a marked increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Highlands in the last 24 hours.

Nine further cases have been confirmed, taking the total number of cases in the region to 22.

The number of Scottish people testing positive for Covid-19 rose by 135 to 719 and there have now been 22 deaths among those contracting the disease – six more than yesterday.

The number of confirmed cases in neighbouring Grampian has risen to 29, up from 24 yesterday.

The worst affected health board areas in Scotland are Greater Glasgow & Clyde (221) and Lothian (88).

A total of 10,676 tests for Covid-19 have been carried out in Scotland.
