Highland baker Harry Gow to be laid to rest in Inverness early in the New Year

A funeral date has been set for the legendary Highland baker Harry Gow.

The respected businessman, who built one of Scotland’s best-loved baking empires, died at home on Friday, December 20 at the age of 89.

News of his passing brought hundreds of heartfelt tributes for the man behind the brand that became synonymous with quality, tradition, and community spirit in the Highlands.

Funeral directors D. Chisholm & Sons say there will be a private service at Inverness Crematorium on Saturday, January 4, followed by a celebration of Mr Gow’s life at Ness Bank Church, with a live stream also available online.

The death notice reads:

Peacefully at home on Friday 20th December 2024, Harry Gow, aged 89 years, Westhill, Inverness. Much loved husband of Christine and the late Arras, very special dad of Jane, Pamela, Sara, David and Fraser, adored grandpa and great grandpa, also a dear father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and good friend and colleague to many. Following a private committal service in Inverness Crematorium, a service of thanksgiving and celebration will be held on Saturday 4th January 2025 at 2pm in Ness Bank Church, Inverness. All welcome to attend. No flowers please. Donations in memory of Harry towards CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland) may be given at the door or on D. Chisholm & Sons' website. Livestream available on church website.
