Boat of Garten songbird Ailsa Villegas has decided it’s time to make some noise about the disease which claimed 13-year-old music-mad Bobo Munro of Carrbridge.
As she put the finishing touches to The Big Gig this week, Ailsa told the Strathy: “During the pandemic, performing online from my spare bedroom was a great way to connect with people but I really missed performing to a live audience.
“I also missed getting out to enjoy live music myself. I promised my followers that once things were back to normal, we would get together for a live gig and a dance.
“And so I have pulled together some fantastic acts for a great evening of music and dancing – and all the proceeds will be donated to local charity RAM foundation which was set up in memory of Robert Andrew Munro, or Bobo to his friends.
“He was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma on November 13, 2015 at just 11 years old. On June 15, 2017 he tragically passed away. The charity supports research into Paediatric DIPG.
“Bobo loved music and he himself learned to play the pipes and the piano. We thought this would be a fitting tribute to him with one of his best friends, 18 year old Kyle Powell, from Carrbridge performing too.”
The gig next Saturday (June 18) at Boat of Garten Community Hall will feature well-known local acts and visitors.
Ailsa said: “I very much hope all music lovers will consider coming along to a great evening of music and dancing.
"There will be a bar and we also hope to have a home baking stall with teas and coffees and run a raffle to raise more money."
Tickets can be purchased on the night or in advance via Eventbrite.
The line-up features: Anne Dickson Band (7pm); Howard & Christine (7.30pm); 8pm George Gordon; Latin dance session with pro dancer Frankie (8.30pm); Ailsa Villegas (9pm); raffle followed by Dougie Burns & The Cadillacs’s blues/rock ‘n’ roll (9.30pm); Blind Broken (10.20pm) and Kyle Powell & Ruairidh Kelly (11pm).
