The Scottish Green Party has struck a budget deal that will see free bus travel extended to all young people aged 21 and under.

The agreement means that from this summer over a million children and young people will be eligible for free journeys, including 42,260 in Highland.

Scottish Greens Highland and Islands regional candidate Ariane Burgess said: “I’m delighted that the Scottish Greens have been able to reach an agreement that delivers transformational change.

“Free bus travel for over a million children and young people will bring huge social, economic and environmental benefits to Scotland.

In Highland it means that 42,260 children and young people and their families will benefit.

“There is no doubt that much work is required to make access to public transport easier for people in all parts of the country but making travel free for young people will remove a significant impediment for many families.”
