FOUR fresh Covid infections were recorded across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases rose from 4926 to 4930 when the latest figures were released by the Scottish Government on Monday. It was the second day running that just four new cases were detected.

Ten people were being treated for Covid-19 in NHS Highland hospitals last night. This was unchanged from yesterday.

Three-hundred-and-fifty-nine positive tests were recorded across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 3.7 per cent of all tests during that period.

The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night stood at 353 – up nine from the previous day.

Of those, there were 33 people in intensive care. This was up two from Sunday’s update.

No fresh coronavirus deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in either NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney, although NHS Eileanan Siar’s running total rose by three to 294.

Twenty-five new positive tests were registered in NHS Grampian, which now has an overall total of 14,043.

And NHS Tayside added 24 cases to its tally, which now stands at 13,918.

There have been 213,888 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began a year ago.

2.182 million Scots have now received their first dose of the vaccine, and more than 225,000 have had their second.
