The first new facilities have opened in the new £20m Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital in Aviemore.

The Aviemore GP practice has relocated from its surgery building at Muirton to the hospital at Dalfaber.

It is part of a phased move into the building which will continue for the rest of this week.

Practice manager Vera Haringman told the Strathy: "We’ve indeed moved in over the weekend and are operational as of today.

"The move went smoothly and we are very happy with the new facilities for the practice.

"The first patients have been seen already although we are only open for emergencies today.

"From tomorrow it will be business as usual for the practice including flu vaccination clinic for two to five year olds.

"We are grateful for everybody who has contributed to making the new Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital such a nice local facility."

An NHS Highland spokeswoman said that other services would be coming online through-out the week: "Services are transitioning to the new hospital this week.

"The GP practice moving in over the weekend and opened today and this is being followed by community services and urgent care today and tomorrow and inpatient services on Wednesday and Thursday."
