First dose of Covid vaccine now given to more than half the adults in NHS Highland area

More than half of the adult population in the NHS Highland area have now received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The latest figures from Public Health Scotland show that the health board has administered 136,862 first doses – a total of 50.7 per cent of the population.

A further 22,465 have also received a second dose, equating to 8.3 per cent of adults.

The milestone was reached as 10 fresh cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the area on Saturday, taking the tally to 4922 since the pandemic began.

There were 11 people being treated for the coronavirus in NHS Highland hospitals yesterday – down one since Friday.

In Shetland, three new cases were detected, taking the total there to 224. There were no fresh cases reported in the Western Isles or Orkney.

Across Scotland, there were 488 new cases of Covid-19 recorded. This was 2.7 per cent of all tests carried out in the most recent 24-hour period.

A total of 367 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19 – a drop of 30 since Friday.

Of these, 31 were in intensive care – down four from yesterday.

Eight further deaths of people who had recently tested positive for Covid-19 were also recorded in the past day.

Nationally, 2,085,525 people have now received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 207,028 have received their second dose.
