Firefighters battle wildfire on the doorstep of the Cairngorms National Park

Wildfires have resulted in the closure of the B861 near Farr with firefighters continuing to battle the blaze.

A total of six Scottish Fire & Rescue Services (SFRS) fire appliances have been mobilised to fight the fires between Cuthduthel and Inverarnie.

Clouds of smoke from the blaze have been obscuring the roads nearby.

Motorists are being advised that the road has been closed until further notice but fire bosses have advised that there is ‘no immediate threat to life or nearby property’.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.14am today to reports of a wildfire off the B861 between Inverness and Farr.

“Operations Control have mobilised six fire appliances and special resources to the scene.

“Firefighters continue to work to bring the wildfire under control.

“There is no immediate threat to life or nearby property.”

The blaze follows an SFRS warning of a “very high risk” of wildfires today, which was issued yesterday.
