All UHI campuses, including Inverness College, are to suspend face-to-face teaching.

Face-to-face teaching at the colleges and research institutions of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) is to be suspended from 5pm on Friday to help reduce the risk of the spread of coronavirus in the community.

The arrangement, which applies to Inverness College UHI, will continue until further notice.

It follows a meeting of all 14 principals this morning.

The suspension covers all further education, higher education and community programmes delivered at the campuses across the Highlands and Islands, Moray and Perthshire.

Students are being instructed not to attend classes in person until they are told otherwise.

It includes lectures, tutorials, laboratory classes and seminars.

A statement from UHI said: "Campus buildings, including residences, student support and library services and resource centres, remain open and staff continue to work on site.

"However, there is currently no overseas travel permitted for students or staff. Only essential course-related travel within the UK will be allowed."

It continued: "These are unprecedented times but we're planning carefully to ensure students can continue their studies, including examination arrangements, with as little disruption as possible."

Further information on the latest developments will be available at www.uhi.ac.uk/coronavirus
