ELEVEN new cases of Covid-19 have been detected across NHS Highland in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 5121 to 5132 when the latest daily figures were released on Thursday.

Across Scotland there were 178 new cases of the virus in the past 24 hours. This was 0.8 per cent of all tests during that period.

Seventy people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – down five from yesterday.

A dozen of those were in intensive care. This was unchanged from the previous update.

Sadly, another five deaths have been recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were again no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Grampian registered 17 new cases, taking its cumulative total to 14,952.

And six new infections were recorded across NHS Tayside, for an overall tally of 14,676.

There have now been 225,861 positive tests for the virus in Scotland since the start of the global pandemic.

Almost 2.79 million Scots have now had their first Covid-19 vaccination jag, while more than 1.14 million have had their second.
