A cannabis user was thrown out by his partner after spending the night at her Aviemore home but returned to threaten her with a pocket knife.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that when another woman intervened outside the Munro Place property on the morning of August 31, last year, 26 year old Liam McMaster of Allt Mor Crescent, Kinlochrannoch spat at her.

Sheriff Gordon Lamont heard from fiscal depute Adelle Gray who said that McMaster had slept at the address the night before but was asked to leave by his partner when she woke.

Ms Gray went on: "He said he would leave but then refused and said to her: 'Make me.' She said she would get a neighbour to assist her and the accused left.

A short time later, he contacted her saying he had nowhere to go but she asked to be left alone.

"He returned to the property and refused to leave, standing outside by a lamp-post where he then took out a pocket knife. The other woman asked him to leave but he again refused and spat at her.

"Police were called and decided to conduct a drugs search. They found a total of 44 grams of cannabis with a street value of around £500, a joint and grinder in his belongings,” Ms Gray added.

Defending, Duncan Henderson told the Sheriff after McMaster had admitted threatening behaviour, assault and possession of cannabis:

"He accepts his relationship is over. He bought a large amount at the one time because he is a user."

Sheriff Lamont placed McMaster, who was not present, under 18 months of supervision, restricted his liberty to his home between 8pm and 8am, ordered him to pay one victim £400 in compensation and the other £300 plus imposed a three year non-harassment order to protect the victims.
