The increase came as Scotland reported 1202 new positive tests in the last 24 hours.

The number of people in hospital with coronavirus rose by 17 to 1117. And those in intensive care increased three to 85.

Sadly, there were 28 further deaths across Scotland among people who previously tested positive for coronavirus.

Meanwhile, there were no new cases of coronavirus in NHS Eileanan Siar, but NHS Shetland and NHS Orkney both detected one fresh infection apiece, to take their overall totals to 67 and 32 respectively.

NHS Grampian reported 28 positive tests to take its cumulative tally to 3268.

And 76 fresh cases were detected in NHS Tayside, taking its total to 3914.

Scotland has now had 60,403 positive tests for Covid-19 since the pandemic first began.
