Another 167 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus detected across NHS Highland area

ALMOST 170 new positive tests for Covid-19 have been reported in the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours – and nearly 300 have been spotted in just two days.
The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases rose by 167 – from 10,102 to 10,269 – when the latest daily figures were released on Thursday. That followed a rise of 119 the previous day.
The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night stood at 11 – which was unchanged from the day before.
There were 3367 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland over the past day – or nine per cent of all tests conducted over that period.
Some 317 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, which is down four from Wednesday.
Of those, 33 were in intensive care – down six.
Sadly, seven further deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Eileanan Siar reported seven new cases overnight (for a running total of 493), while NHS Shetland detected four and NHS Orkney recorded five, to take their tallies to 410 and 178 respectively.
NHS Grampian’s total rose by 136, to 24,589.
And NHS Tayside reported 168, for a cumulative total of 28,055.
There have now been 373,143 known cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began.
Almost 4.07 million people in Scotland have now had their first Covid vaccination, while more than 3.51 million have received their second jag.
