Covid-19 coronavirus total increases by 82 in NHS Highland health board area

ANOTHER 82 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed across the NHS Highland health board area.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases since the start of the pandemic, rose from 5794 to 5876 when Public Health Scotland released its latest set of daily figures on Thursday.

There were 2999 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented 8.7 per cent of all tests carried out in the country over that period.

Some 177 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – a rise of seven.

And 17 of those were in intensive care, which was down one from Wednesday.

Sadly five more deaths have been recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh cases overnight in NHS Eileanan Siar.

NHS Shetland recorded one new infection, for a cumulative tally of 254, and NHS Orkney’s overall total increased by three, to 85.

Two-hundred new cases were detected across NHS Grampian, which now has a running total of 16,853.

And NHS Tayside’s overall tally rose by 312, to 18,409.

There have now been 263,710 confirmed cases of the virus in Scotland since the pandemic began.

Almost 3.7 million Scots have now received their first vaccination jag, while more than 2.63 million have had their second.
