Covid-19 coronavirus infection rate across the Highland Council region falls, but it stays above 200 cases per 100,000 people, new figures from Public Health Scotland reveal

THE Covid-19 infection rate in the Highlands has fallen slightly – but still sits above 200 cases per 100,000 people.
Public Health Scotland’s latest daily update revealed that there were 500 confirmed coronavirus infections across the Highland Council area in the seven days up to January 6.
The equates to 212 cases for every 100,000 people.
The figure is down from the 570 cases (and a rate of 241.7 infections per 100,000) recorded in the seven days up to January 5.
The fall was mirrored across Scotland as a whole, which is currently in lockdown and saw its seven day positive rate per 100,000 people drop slightly from 299.2 to 289.4.
News of the slight falls came as the NHS Highland area – which covers the Highland and Argyll & Bute councils – recorded 97 new infections in the past 24 hours.
