NHS Highland region detects nine new Covid-19 coronavirus infections in past 24 hours

NINE new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus have been identified across the NHS Highland area in the past day.
The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic rose from 5404 to 5413 when Public Health Scotland released its latest daily update on Friday.
There were 1104 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland since the last update – representing 4.1 per cent of those tests conducted during the past 24 hours.
Some 132 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night – an increase of eight since Thursday.
And there were 13 people in intensive care, which was down one since the previous update.
No fresh deaths were reported among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were again no newly-confirmed cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.
NHS Grampian’s tally climbed by 58, to 15,749.
And, in NHS Tayside, there were another 118 positive tests – for a running total of 16,323.
There have now been 244,714 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Scotland since the global pandemic started last year.
Almost 3.46 million Scots have now had their first vaccination injection, while nearly 2.38 million have received their second jag.
