Public Health Scotland confirms 178 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus across NHS Highland region

THERE were 178 newly-confirmed cases of the coronavirus across the NHS Highland area in the past 24 hours, figures from Public Health Scotland have shown.

The region’s cumulative number of positive tests since the pandemic began increased from 10,269 to 10,447 when the latest numbers were published on Friday.

Thirteen people were receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – up two on the previous day.

There were 3613 new positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 10.6 per cent of all tests conducted over that period.

Some 312 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – down five from Thursday’s update.

Of those, 34 were in intensive care. This was up one from yesterday.

Sadly nine more deaths have also been reported among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there was one new case in NHS Shetland last night, taking its running total to 411.

NHS Eileanan Siar recorded five fresh infections, for a cumulative figure of 498, and NHS Orkney’s overall tally rose by three to 181.

NHS Grampian reported 166 new positive tests – for a total of 24,755.

And NHS Tayside’s figures rose by 144, to 28,199.

There have now been 376,753 known cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began.

More than 4.07 million people have now received their first dose of the vaccine, while nearly 3.53 million have had their second jag.
