NHS Highland health board area detects 84 fresh Covid-19 coronavirus infections

ANOTHER 84 people have tested positive for Covid-19 across the NHS Highland area, Public Health Scotland has revealed.

The cumulative number of people diagnosed with the virus across the health board region since the start of the pandemic rose from 6290 to 6374 on Tuesday.

There were 3118 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 11.6 per cent of all people tested in the country during that period.

Some 215 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – a rise of 13 – although the number of those in intensive care remained unchanged on 20.

Sadly one further person has died after testing positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, NHS Orkney and NHS Eileanan Siar both recorded two new cases apiece, for running totals of 89 and 304 respectively.

Three new positive tests were registered in NHS Shetland, taking its cumulative tally to 266.

NHS Grampian’s total rose by 167 overnight, and now stands at 17,742.

While there were 335 fresh cases in NHS Tayside – taking its overall total to 19,838.

There have now been 277,335 known cases of the coronavirus across Scotland since the start of the pandemic last year.

More than 3.78 million people have now had their first vaccination shot, while more than 2.7 million have had their second jag.
