Concerns for Grantown wood visitors’ safety after close calls with high speed motorbikers
Community leaders who look after Anagach Woods have said that some rogue motorbikers are causing a menace in the forest.
Anagach Woods has gone public with their concerns pointing out that riding a motorcycle in the woods is dangerous and illegal.
The trust stated on local social media: “Our primary source of concern arises from reports from a number of walkers about uncomfortably close encounters on a narrow path with a motorbike travelling at high speed.
“Not only is this activity dangerous to other users of the woods but the loud noise is highly disruptive to wildlife and generally antisocial.
“In addition the path surfaces can very easily be badly damaged because they are designed primarily for walkers and cyclists.”
They have urged that anyone who encounters a motorcyclist in the woods should make a note of the motorbike and rider’s description including location of sighting, riders’ clothing and helmet colour and motorbike colour) and contact the police on 101 or report it in person at the Aviemore Police Station.
Anagach Woods is a community owned woodland managed by an elected board of trustees.
The spokesperson said: “The board appreciates the community’s help with this matter as it our responsibility to ensure the paths and trails are safe for all users of the woods.”
