The Newtonmore Art Project Team have received design proposals from four selected artists for an installation in the Square.

The selected artists are John Merrill, Claire Macdonald, Stuart Murdoch and the partnership of Kate Henderson and Anita Pate.

They displayed their ideas and examples of their previous work at a public consultation at the end of February and have now designed and developed their tenders.

The February event, they have all said, achieved their objective to gain further inspiration, understand the community more and test their initial proposals, particularly when visiting Newtonmore Primary and Kingussie Secondary to talk about the project and absorb the children’s visions.

The project team plan are currently determining each of the proposals to confirm they correspond to the brief: celebrating the heritage, history, culture, sporting prowess of Newtonmore, displaying what binds the community together.

Their work will also aim to demonstrate what charms the many types of visitors to the popular Badenoch visit, be it by walking, cycling, driving or by train, coach or bus.

In particular, the feasibility of each will be judged and the maintenance and sustainability of the propositions.

The exhibition, open to all, takes place on Wednesday (May 1) from 2-8pm in the Lesser Hall of Newtonmore Village Hall.

Then folk will be able to study the four proposals, leave comments and ultimately vote for one they wish to be installed.

Once the piece has been chosen the project team will progress towards planning permission, funding and the subsequent installation.
