A PUBLIC meeting has been arranged in Kingussie to discuss the tricky problem of the Ruthven Bridge on the town’s outskirts.

Newly-elected Highland councillor Russell Jones (Independent) is set to chair the discussion on July 14 in an effort to establish the facts and get a full picture of how the bridge’s surface problems can be permanently resolved.

There was confusion last month over the timing of the latest repairs with many residents and businesses afraid of closure right through the summer season. But fears were eventually allayed with clarification that work would not actually start until September.

Councillor Jones told the Strathy he is now inviting the public to Talla nan Ros to meet with Highland Council engineers.

He said: “The agenda will be in three parts. Firstly, the story of the bridge so far and why it will be closed for repairs again.

“Secondly, to hear an explanation of the repairs and a start and end date of works Thirdly, to look to the future, including plans to make the bridge and B970 from the Market Stance to the top of Ruthven brae safer for non-motorised road users.

“The purpose of the meeting is to make as much information about the bridge and road closure available to everyone who has an interest in it.”

The meeting is scheduled for 7pm.
