What kind of world will the young inherit – it’s a question being asked more and more urgently – by them.

A global campaign is picking up steam and this week saw a brief but effective demonstration by S3 pupils of Grantown Grammar School.

Their teacher, Rachel Knight, organised an awareness-raising event in the High Street on Friday morning and the message was very clearly sent by her students that action had to be taken now to address the issues which were arising around the globe and affecting so many species – with concerns raised over global warming threatening the ice caps and the individual efforts which everyone could make to reduce their own emissions of greenhouse gases.

“We are not striking,” stressed Ms Knight, “but we are using the opportunity to raise awareness in our own community”.

The demonstration continued for about an hour and many leaflets were handed out to interested shoppers.
