Another rise in Covid-19 cases has been reported at a rural care home hit by a mass outbreak of the virus late last month.

Meallmore Lodge, seven miles south of Inverness, has now had 76 staff and residents testing positive in all, up nine on Friday’s reported case-load.

NHS Highland said 37 residents and 39 staff at the premises had now been placed in isolation at the home which is also used at times to care for people from the strath.

The condition of those affected is not known.

Meallmore Lodge offers various types of residential, assisted living, respite and short stay care for up to 94 adults in rural Victorian buildings and modern extensions near Moy.

NHS Highland’s health protection team (HPT) has been working with health and social care colleagues, local community nursing teams and local GPs to try to stop the spread of the virus within the care home and wider community.

A spokeswoman for Meallmore Lodge admitted it remained “a very worrying situation” for families of residents and staff.

She said: “We would like to reassure people that all Meallmore Lodge residents and staff were vaccinated with their first dose in January.

"With a combination of our own team supported by our trusted local agencies, we continue to maintain normal levels of cover across the home to ensure the wellbeing, comfort and safety of our residents.

"We have robust infection control practices in place and we are also working extremely closely with Health Protection Scotland to ensure that everyone at Meallmore Lodge receives the best possible advice and care.”
