Last year's 27th annual World Porridge Making Championship was intended to be a one-off virtual event but its success – and Covid-19 – has prompted a second one.

It's the real thing: Carrbridge's big parade will return soon as. Until now the world porridge championships will continue virtually.
It's the real thing: Carrbridge's big parade will return soon as. Until now the world porridge championships will continue virtually.

The 28th championships planned for Saturday October 9, from 10am—4pm, were hopefully going to be the real thing, with the return of the village's famous parade, but today the organisers posted:

"Again because of the Covid virus the World Porridge Championship is staying on line.

"Last year we had a great time viewing entries from all over the world and we hope you will be as innovative this year.

"Start thinking on your recipe and keep your eye on our Web site.

"It will be updated soon. Stay safe."

Last year the Porridge Committee looked at the entries and put the best of them on the web and Facebook on World Porridge Day.

The contestants were awarded the title of Virtual Spurtler 2020 and received a Hamlyns Perfect Porridge Pack.

Perthshire produced the overall winner in Chris Young, who presented a twist on a French dish which in Gaelic is Crunch sa Bheul.

Chris stunned the judges with his balance of ingredients, uniqueness of idea and flair for the method.
