All eyes are on Carrbridge tonight as the coldest place in Badenoch and Strathspey - and some distance beyond - is sought.

“We're getting close to -20c,” reported local weather expert Lee Schofield early today.

His Highlands and Islands Weather Service confirmed: “Two more of my recording spots near Carrbridge and Nethy Bridge are at -19c this morning.”

While temperatures are expected to start rising again over the next few days and remain warmer for the rest of the week, tonight’s measurements will be very closely observed as things remain distinctly chilly.

The ground is expected to defrost and the hoar frost and snow will retract but there should be more information on that available after tomorrow.

More stats anon.
