People who bought ski season passes for Cairngorm Mountain for the Covid-hit 2020/21 season are to have their full money refunded.

Operators Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd have said they have taken the decision because it could be some time before the slopes are opened.

The resort has been enjoying its best conditions since 2010/11 but the pandemic means that the uplift and other facilities have been closed since just before Christmas.

Susan Smith, CMSL's interim chief executive, said: "The CMSL board met recently and we discussed the situation regarding season pass holders.

"Given the Covid-pandemic lockdown restrictions, it could be some time before restrictions are lifted and we are allowed to reopen the business.

"The board was unanimously in favour of providing a full refund to all current season pass holders – winter 2020/21.

"All those who submitted their application via email should have already had direct contact regarding details on how your refund will be processed.

"Those who submitted postal applications should expect a letter in the coming days."

Ms Smith added: "We will communicate widely about our reopening plans once we have a clearer picture on when the current restrictions will be eased."

And she thanked those who had bought season passes for their 'continuing loyalty', adding: "Stay safe and we look forward to the day we can welcome you back to Cairngorm Mountain."

Anyone who has bought a season ticket but not received an email yet is asked for their patience whilst CMSL deals with the refunds.

The resort offers early bird tickets with discounted prices for those buying their season passes long before the season starts meaning that many would have been bought once the country came out of the first lockdown with hopes of a good ski season lying ahead.

Traditionally, Cairngorm Mountain would now be in the midst of its busiest two weeks of the year - the February half-term school holidays for the UK.
