New Jags boss Charlie Brown has said he is delighted to finally become the number one at a Highland League club.

The ex-Forres Mechanics star has been named as the Grantown club's new manager.

The 46-year-old joins Seafield Park after a six-year stint on the coaching side after a stellar career with the Moray club and a short but successful spell playing with Buckie Thistle for two seasons from 2010/11 including a league title win.

Brown told the Strathy: "I'm really pleased to be at Strathspey Thistle.

"I have been coaching for six years now so it is great to get the chance to be a number one myself.

"I was at Forres for 23 years with two years at Buckie Thistle - and won the league there - before going back with Charlie Rowley taking me on as coach

"I am really excited to get started. It is great to come to a club whose ambition matches my own. They want to win as many games as possible and get up the table.

"I met most of the players on Tuesday night and they were really enthusiastic and committed to the club.

"They have the qualities that any manager would be looking for so I am optimistic that I can work with the players we have got – and get a few more in – to be successful and head in the right direction."

Brown replaces Gordy Nicolson who resigned last month because of commitments with Inverness Caley's youth set-up and through work.
