Inverness to London Kings Cross LNER rail service cancelled after ‘person hit by train’ with service now leaving from Edinburgh
A serious incident has forced the cancellation of this morning’s long-distance rail service linking Inverness with London Kings Cross.
Rail operator LNER say it was because of a person being hit by a train.
The condition of the individual involved is not yet known.
The train will no longer service stops between Inverness and Edinburgh, but instead start in the Scottish capital at 11.30 am from Edinburgh Waverley.
An LNER spokesman said: “The 7:55 Inverness to London Kings Cross due 15:49 will be started from Edinburgh.
“It will no longer call at Inverness, Aviemore, Kingussie, Pitlochry, Perth, Gleneagles, Stirling, Falkirk Grahamston and Haymarket.
“This is due to a person being hit by a train.”
LNER have now clarified that the incident happened yesterday morning between Peterborough and London King’s Cross.
It meant that the northbound Inverness service arrived into Edinburgh close to two and a half hours late.
The spokesman added: “If we had continued the journey to Inverness, this would have impacted this morning’s journey from Inverness southbound as well, owing to driver and train manager constraints.
“We arranged ticket acceptance for customers with ScotRail and also arranged rail replacement coaches for customers (including this morning).
“For customers travelling this morning who booked with LNER, they will have received an email yesterday advising of the cancellation and the alternative travel arrangements.”
