BEAR Scotland issues A9 warning about delays for drivers due to road resurfacing works with a convoy system in place
BEAR Scotland has confirmed that it will be carrying out significant resurfacing and road marking works on the A9 later this month which could lead to some disruption for motorists.
It is the latest in a series of projects to resurface parts of the road which started with a stretch from Kincraig and Carrbridge and then another from Slochd and Findhorn Bridge.
The work between Blair Atholl and Dalwhinnie will impact drivers heading north or south as well as those local to that section of the road as traffic lights and a convoy system will be in place for safety.
The project will last from Sunday September 22 to Wednesday October 2 and entails resurfacing – usually welcomed by drivers concerned about potholes – and road marking improvements.
But to minimise the impact on road users the work carried out by BEAR Scotland will be done in sections through the evening and night, starting at 7pm and ending at 6am.
In the past there has been significant anger about delays caused by works including delays last more than two hours due work done by SGN that led John Swinney to brand their CEO as “disengaged”.
For those planning ahead, the sections of work and their timing is below:
BEAR Scotland said: “To ensure the safety of drivers and road workers at the various locations, traffic lights will be in place and traffic will be guided through the works at 10mph by a convoy vehicle. There will also be a reduced speed limit to control traffic on approach to the sites.
“Outwith working hours, traffic management will be removed and the road will be open as usual. There will be no works on Friday or Saturday nights. Access for emergency services will be maintained for the full duration of the works.”
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative said: “These surfacing and roadmarking improvements on the A9 between Blair Atholl and Dalwhinnie will fix existing defects and greatly improve driving conditions for road users.
“Our teams will carry out these works quickly, with safety as our top priority. We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we complete the improvements.”
