Badenoch's heritage prevails despite the pandemic

Despite the challenge of a global pandemic, Badenoch will still be celebrating its amazing heritage this week in another festival.

Details of a unique Zoom event have been published ready for the big start on Monday.

Events will take place daily until next Friday.

The virtual festival will welcome audiences freely each day at 2pm via the Zoom facility.

Monday will see "Heritage, Tourism and Place-making: Getting ready for Scotland’s Year of Stories in 2022".

Speakers for the event are Clare Cooper of Cateran Ecomuseum, Graham Fraser of the Badenoch Great Place Project and Will Boyd-Wallis of Tomintoul & Glenlivet Landscape Partnership.

Tuesday's second feature is "Into the Marshes", a journey through the history which created Insh Marshes as we see it today with Tors Hamilton, of Cairngorms Connect and colleagues.

Wednesday will welcome renowned shinty broadcaster Hugh Dan MacLennan's "Gaels, Camans, Badenoch – the centre of the Shinty universe?"

On Thursday 29 Matt Ritchie of Forest and Land Scotland will broadcast on "Dun da Lamh: A very Highland hill fort".

Local history researcher Mary Mackenzie will end the festival back at the beginning. Her talk "The Early Days" will mark the coming 200th anniversary of the birth of Newtonmore.
