Secondary school pupils across Badenoch and Strathspey are enjoying an unexpected half day off today because of the road conditions.

Stagecoach is not running any of its school buses because of the icy roads.

Claire McGonigal, headteacher of Grantown Grammar School, told the Strathy: "It was hugely disappointing to close the school today because of an early phone call from Stagecoach about icy roads which meant the buses were unable to run.

"However, everyone at Highland Council is keen to work together to avoid this happening again.

"I’ve been in touch with the authority's roads and transport who have already come up with helpful suggestions and we are having a joint planning meeting next week.

"With so many pressures from Covid, the last thing anyone wants is to close the school because of the weather.”

A Kingussie High School spokeswoman said: "Kingussie High School is closed today due to Stagecoach not running any buses due to dangerous road conditions.

"We apologies for the disruption. Class work will be set on Google Classroom."
