Badenoch and Strathspey will parade for those who paid
Badenoch and Strathspey is ready to remember.
As Kingussie’s evocative force of volunteer-produced silhouettes went on parade by the war memorials in the Gynack Gardens, a ‘programme’ shared with the Strathy by its compiler, local reservist Major Heather Taylor demonstrated how every corner of the strath will be turning out to pay its respects to The Fallen.
The silhouettes on parade at Kingussie were funded by the town’s community development company, explained director Gilmour Strang.
“They have arrived in good time for Remembrance,” saluted Mr Strang.
“The Jock who is back to back with a shinty player remembers the 1914 Kingussie Camanachd Cup-winning team, of whom five did not return.
“The silhouettes were funded by Kingussie Community Development Companybut made and erected by local volunteers.”
Sunday will see remembrance parades in no fewer than 15 local communities.
The places and times are all included in Major Taylor’s comprehensive table.
“I took a day to collate it,” she explained, so that everyone in the strath would not miss out on the opportunity to thank those who had made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom they enjoy today.
“I hope it will also encourage locals and visitors to purchase a poppy, wear it and attend a service or wreath laying, throughout the strath.”
