The Macdonald Spey Valley Cinema will be showing the eagerly awaited Top Gun: Maverick when it goes on general release in the UK later this month.

The sequel sees Tom Cruise reprise his role as US Navy pilot Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell.

Test pilot Maverick has purposely dodged an advancement in rank after 36 years of service.

In the new movie he is called to be put in charge of training a group of Top Gun graduates for a special mission under the orders of his fellow naval aviator friend and former rival, Admiral Tom 'Iceman' Kazansky, who is the commander of the US Pacific Fleet.

Among them is Lieutenant Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw, the son of Maverick's late best friend Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw.

Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.

Christine Butchart, Aviemore Resort marketing manager, said: “We are delighted to be showcasing the much anticipated Top Gun: Maverick movie right here at Spey Valley Cinema.

"It’s hard to believe it’s been 35 years since Top Gun's 1986 release.”

The sequel to Top Gun also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer.

Top Gun: Maverick opens at the Spey Valley Cinema on Wednesday May 25 with a screen time of 7pm, and there will be an extended run.
