The shot was captured last night by Kingussie photographer David Macleod as he looked northwards around midnight.

"I was impressed as the lights rippled gently low down on the horizon as I looked over Kincraig towards what I think was the Nairn direction," he told the Strathy.

"I would like to have seen them higher - and nearer - but I still felt privileged to catch something of the show.

"On those rare occasions I do see something of the spectacle I always do feel privileged."
