They are ACE at providing terrific local developments and facilities and this week has seen the latest addition.

Aviemore Community Enterprise has proudly unveiled the excellent outdoor classroom - described as a genuine ‘learning space’ - in the woods by the old Pony Field.

The site is now partly home to Tulloch Homes’ Bynack More near the village centre

For a long time now ACE has been taking on projects of all sorts and the organisation has been known to offer vital support to other community efforts.

“The aim is to help make Aviemore a better place to live,” explained Kathleen Cameron, the chairperson.

The new outdoor classroom is available for use by the local primary school, the village’s nursery and a wide range of other community group, said Ms Cameron.

ACE spokesman Al Dargie said: “We wanted to provide an outdoor sheltered space where groups or individuals could meet, learn, play or just stop to take in the views whilst out and about in Aviemore.

“Chair, Kathleen Cameron and Peter Long, director, have been overseeing this project from its inception.

“It has been a long slow process due to Covid restrictions, personal tragedy and building works at Bynack More.

“The working title of outdoor classroom will be changed, we intend to run a poll on our Facebook page to name the structure, as it’s not exclusively a classroom it’s there to be used by anyone.

“All we ask is that it is treated with respect and rubbish is removed after use, so the facility remains a usable space."

Current, recent and ongoing projects include the refurbishment of the village green, provision and management of the village’s winter lights and floral hanging baskets.

The team also lend their weight to the organisation and funding-raising of the Christmas Eve procession which for so long has been such a colourful addition to the community’s festive celebrations.
