Scottish Conservative Jamie Halcro Johnston has backed former Cabinet Secretary Fergus Ewing after the SNP MSP said the Scottish Government colleagues should meet their previous promises on road dualling as 'a matter of honour'.

Mr Ewing was speaking during a Conservative debate on road infrastructure in the Scottish Parliament yesterday during which he highlighted the need for dualling the A9 and A96.

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said: "It's not often that I find myself agreeing with Fergus Ewing but he is absolutely right to say that this is a matter of honour and SNP ministers must meet their promises to complete the dualling of these key roads as promised.

“It's good to see at least one SNP politician brave enough to speak up, highlighting the contribution dualling would make to reducing accidents and making the roads safer for users.

“Unfortunately, we got the same old nonsense and deflection from a Transport Minister who clearly thinks SNP promises don’t need to be delivered."
