A road traffic accident that happened earlier today on the A9 has been cleared.

The incident closed both north and south carriageways for much of the afternoon.

Traffic Scotland said the road had now been cleared but has warned motorists to drive carefully as traffic is still heavy.

A spokesman said: "Northbound has reopened following a road traffic collision near Dalnaspidal

"All lanes running.

"Traffic is still heavy in both directions but should start to ease soon."
