Covid-19 update.

SIXTY-seven new Covid-19 cases were recorded across the NHS Highland area in the past day, the Scottish Government has revealed.

The cumulative number of positive tests in the region rose from 2024 to 2091 when the latest daily figures were released at 2pm.

The rise came as Scotland posted a record-breaking number of daily infections for the second day running.

Some 2045 confirmed cases were reported across Scotland in the past 24 hours – the first time more than 2000 positive tests have been recorded in a single day, and up on yesterday’s previous daily record of 1895.

The number of people requiring hospital treatment for the virus also rose – up 41 to 1133.

Of those, some 69 people were in intensive care – an increase of four.

And sadly there have been a further 43 deaths among people who previously tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, in the north of Scotland, only NHS Orkney’s health board posted no new cases in the past day.

NHS Shetland’s recent cluster of cases continued, with seven further positive tests recorded – taking its cumulative tally to 112.

And NHS Eileanan Siar detected one new infection, for a running total of 95.

NHS Grampian saw its overall tally jump 184 to 7610.

And NHS Tayside’s cumulative number of cases passed the 8000 mark – rising 130 to 8064 overnight.

Scotland has now recorded 124,831 positive tests for Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
