Fifty-seven further positive tests for Covid-19 recorded in the NHS Highland health board area; increase came as 1875 fresh coronavirus infections were reported across Scotland in the past day

FIFTY-seven further cases of Covid-19 have been detected across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 3095 to 3152 when the latest daily update was released on Tuesday.

Across Scotland there were 1875 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. This represented 12 per cent of all tests carried out.

Some 1717 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night – up 53 on the previous day.

And 133 of those were in intensive care, a rise of seven on Monday’s update.

Sadly, a further 54 deaths were recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the preceding 28 days – taking the number of dead under that measurement above 5000, to 5023.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in NHS Orkney, but NHS Shetland detected seven and NHS Eileanan Siar recorded three to take their running tallies to 182 and 115 respectively.

NHS Grampian registered another 136 positive tests – taking its total to 10,314.

And NHS Tayside added another 109, for a cumulative tally of 10,285.

There have been 153,493 confirmed Covid-19 cases across Scotland since the start of the pandemic.

The daily update also revealed that 150,942 people in Scotland have received at least the first stage of the vaccine.
