NHS Highland region records 45 new Covid-19 infections; rise came as 1201 fresh positive tests for the coronavirus were registered across the whole of Scotland over the past 24 hours

FORTY-five further positive tests for Covid-19 were recorded across the NHS health board area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic rose from 3798 to 3843 when the latest figures were released by the Scottish Government at 2pm on Thursday.

The number of people being treated for the virus at NHS Highland hospitals dropped by two, to 43, last night.

But those in intensive care rose by one, to six.

There were 1201 new positive tests across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented 5.6 per cent of all tests that were carried out in that period.

The number of Scots receiving treatment for Covid-19 in the country’s hospitals fell 33 to 1983, while those in intensive care also dropped – falling by three to 142.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, only NHS Shetland recorded no fresh cases in the past 24 hours.

NHS Eileanan Siar detected nine further infections, to take its total to 180 since the start of the pandemic, while NHS Orkney reported one new positive test, for a running tally of 61.

There were 94 new cases in NHS Grampian, which has now got an overall total of 12,261.

And NHS Tayside recorded 64 infections – to take its cumulative figure to 11,826.

There have now been 176,533 confirmed Covid-19 infections in Scotland since the beginning of the pandemic.
