Cumulative number of positive tests for Covid-19 across NHS Highland region rises after 38 fresh coronavirus cases detected

THIRTY-eight newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases rose from 4029 to 4067 when the latest daily figures were released by the Scottish Government.

Thirty-four people were receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – a fall of three from Wednesday’s figure.

Of those, seven were in intensive care. This was down one from yesterday.

There were 1149 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This represented 4.9 per cent of all tests carried out during that window.

Some 1812 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scotland’s hospitals last night – a fall of 59 from yesterday’s figure

Of those, 127 were in intensive care – down one.

And sadly 53 further deaths have been recorded among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

But in better news, there was a new daily record for the number of people receiving their first vaccination dose, with more than 45,000 people being given their jag since yesterday’s update. 694,347 people have now had their first dose.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, the recent run of days without new cases of Covid-19 in NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland continued, but NHS Eileanan Siar’s cumulative number of positive tests rose by five, to 202.

NHS Grampian detected 77 fresh cases, for a running total of 12,646.

And NHS Tayside’s overall tally rose by 67, to 12,290.

There have now been 183,418 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the pandemic began.
