THIRTY-three new positive tests for Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s number of cumulative cases increased from 3723 to 3756 when the latest daily figures were published at 2pm on Tuesday.

The data also revealed that 42 people were receiving treatment for the coronavirus in NHS Highland hospitals last night. This was up six from Monday’s update, and is the highest level seen in the health board since April 21 last year.

But the number of those in intensive care in the region was unchanged, on six.

Scotland as a whole recorded 1049 new positive tests for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. This represented nine per cent of all tests carried out during that window.

The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night, stood at 2010 – down six on yesterday’s update.

Of those, 149 were in intensive care. This was a fall of two on Monday’s update.

And sadly, there have been another 87 deaths among people who tested positive in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, there were new cases of Covid-19 in all northern health boards in the past day.

NHS Shetland and NHS Eileanan Siar each recorded one new positive test apiece, to take their cumulative tallies since the start of the pandemic to 210 and 170 respectively. NHS Orkney recorded three new positive tests, to take its total to 60.

NHS Grampian saw its cumulative total pass the 12,000 mark after it detected 78 new cases. Its total now stands at 12,074.

And there were 60 freshly-confirmed cases in NHS Tayside, which has recorded 11,655 infections since the pandemic began.

Scotland’s number of cumulative infections since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 174,002.

Some 437,900 people in Scotland have now received the first dose of the Covid vaccine – an increase of more than 22,000 from Monday’s figure.
