NHS Highland health board area detects 32 new Covid-19 cases; increase came as Scotland recorded 822 fresh coronavirus infections in the past day

THIRTY-two new positive tests for the coronavirus were recorded across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.
The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 4214 to 4246 when the latest daily figures were published at 2pm.
Some 32 people were receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals last night – up one from Monday’s update.
The number of Covid patients in intensive care across NHS Highland also increased to 10, one higher than yesterday’s total of nine – which was itself a record daily high for the region during the pandemic.
Across Scotland there were 822 new positive tests for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. This represented 7.2 per cent of all the tests carried out during that period.
Scotland’s hospitals were treating 1618 people for the virus last night – 54 fewer than during the previous daily update.
But the number of those in intensive care rose by four, to 112.
And sadly a further 58 deaths have been recorded among those people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.
But, in better news, another new record was set for the number of people receiving their first vaccination jag. Some 61,299 people received their first injection in the past 24 hours – taking the country’s total number of administered first doses to 928,122.
There have been 187,542 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland since the start of the pandemic last year.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases in Orkney, but NHS Shetland (one new case) and NHS Eileanan Siar (three) both registered positive tests in the past 24 hours.
On the mainland, NHS Grampian recorded 34 fresh cases, for a cumulative total of 12,863.
And NHS Tayside saw its overall tally rise by 20, to 12,526.
