Flood warnings have been issued for several Highland rivers after temperatures jumped 30C in the space of just two days - triggering a rapid thaw.

Warnings were already in place for Strath Oykel and Strath Carron in Sutherland on Monday morning as much of the deep snow melted away in strong, mild winds that saw temperatures rise from -20C on Saturday morning to 10C today.

And they have since been joined by flood warnings for the River Nairn either side of Cawdor and up to the edge of Nairn, as well as the River Dulnain either side of Carrbridge, from Sluggan to the Dulnain Bridge.

There are also lower level flood alerts in place for Caithness & Sutherland, Wester Ross; Easter Ross & Great Glen; Findhorn, Nairn, Moray & Speyside; and for Skye & Lochaber.

Highlighting the flood warning for Nairn-side (Cawdor), issued just after 9.20am, a spokesperson for the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) said: "Overnight snowmelt has caused rivers in the area to rise rapidly. Agricultural land, low lying properties and roads in the lower Nairn Valley may be at risk of flooding between Cantraydoune and Nairn.

"Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property. Advice and information is available on our website or by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188."

Moving on to the warning for the River Dulnain, which was issued at 11.36am, the spokesperson added: "Flooding is expected in Sluggan to Dulnain Bridge. Act now.
