TWENTY-five positive tests for Covid-19 were recorded across the NHS Highland health board area in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases since the start of the pandemic increased from 4309 to 4334 when the latest daily update was published on Friday afternoon.

Thirty-six people were receiving treatment for the coronavirus in NHS Highland hospitals last night. This was up two from yesterday’s update.

And there were 10 Covid patients in intensive care in the region’s hospitals – down one.

Across Scotland there were 830 fresh positive tests for Covid-19, representing 5.2 per cent of all tests carried out in the past 24 hours.

Scotland’s hospitals were treating 1472 people for the virus last night – 27 fewer than the same point the previous day. But the number of Covid patients in intensive care rose by six to 115.

And the number who were also in intensive care, but who tested positive for the virus more than 28 days ago, rose by two, to 30.

Sadly, a further 67 coronavirus deaths have been registered.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, only NHS Shetland recorded no fresh positive tests for Covid-19 in the past day.

NHS Orkney detected two new cases, taking its running total to 68, while NHS Eileanan Siar’s tally increased by 13 to 242.

On the mainland, NHS Tayside’s cumulative total rose to 12,613 – an increase of 23.

And NHS Grampian’s figure increased by 20, to 12,974.

Scotland has now recorded 190,005 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

But, in better news, the country registered yet another daily record for the number of doses of the vaccine administered. Some 64,881 injections were carried out yesterday – taking the number of people who have had at least one dose to 1,113,625.
