MORE than 1.5 million Scots have now received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination – it has emerged, after the country passed two major milestones.

The number of people who have received their first jag rose to 1,515,980 after a further 27,903 received their initial dose in the past 24 hours.

The milestone – which represents almost a third of all Scottish adults – was reached on the same day that the Scottish Government confirmed that more than 200,000 Covid-19 cases have now been detected across the country since the start of the pandemic.

The cumulative number of cases passed the 200,000 mark after 769 fresh positive tests took the total to 200,406.

The 769 new cases, which were detected in the past 24 hours, represented 3.7 per cent of all tests carried out since yesterday’s update.

Across Scotland some 967 people were receiving treatment for the virus in hospital last night – this was down 51 from Wednesday’s update. Of those, 89 were in intensive care. This was a fall of four from the last update.

And sadly a further 31 people have died after testing positive for the coronavirus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, NHS Highland detected 14 new positive tests for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

The region’s cumulative number of cases increased from 4601 to 4615 when the latest daily stats were published at 2pm.

Some 26 people were being treated for Covid-19 across NHS Highland hospitals last night – down four from yesterday’s update. But the number of those in intensive care increased by one, to seven.

The Northern Isles have now gone more than a week since their most recent confirmed cases of the virus.

NHS Eileanan Siar’s total remained static after no fresh infections were detected in the past 24 hours.

NHS Grampian’s total number of confirmed infections rose by 18 to 13,403.

And there were 39 new cases in NHS Tayside, which saw its overall tally increase to 13,055.
